ONE APSN, Diverse Journeys: An Interview With Koushik Ghosh, Principal Speech & Language Therapist

ONE APSN, Diverse Journeys: An Interview with Koushik Ghosh, Principal Speech & Language Therapist

A passionate advocate for the power of communication, Koushik Ghosh has dedicated his career to helping individuals find their voice and thrive. In this interview, he reflects on the meaning behind this milestone, his inspiration for joining the field, and his hopes for the future of the therapy team — one that continues to grow, innovate, and make a lasting impact.

  1. What does this milestone mean to you?

This milestone is deeply meaningful to me. I feel truly blessed that my dedication and contributions have been recognised not only within APSN but beyond. With this new designation also comes greater responsibility, and I embrace that with humility and commitment. I am honoured by the trust placed in me and am determined to continue making a positive impact wherever possible.

  1. What inspired you to pursue Speech and Language Therapy?

Speech and Language Therapy is a unique and meaningful profession — it offers the chance to work directly with individuals and support their ability to communicate, which is such a fundamental part of life. I was drawn to the opportunity to help those who are often underserved in our society, and to empower them through communication.

  1. Can you share a memorable moment with a student that reminds you why you love this work?

There is one student who stands out in my memory — she struggled significantly with both communication and behaviour when we first met. Over time, with consistent speech therapy, she began to communicate with confidence, and her behaviour became much more regulated. Seeing her transformation was incredibly fulfilling and reminded me why I do what I do.

  1. What is your vision for the therapy team moving forward?

My vision is for the therapy team to grow in innovation, adaptability, and collaboration. As our field evolves with research, evidence-based practices, and technology, it is essential that we keep pushing boundaries and thinking creatively. While that is not always easy, it is exciting. I also strongly believe in building a cohesive team — when we work well together, we can create a meaningful impact, not just within the school but in the broader community as well.

  1. What advice would you give to someone just starting out in this field?

To those just starting out, I would say – go beyond traditional approaches. Be open-minded and creative in how you support individuals with communication needs. Always keep their quality of life at the centre of your practice — that is where the real difference is made.

  1. What keeps you motivated every day?

What keeps me going every day is a simple thought: if we do not step up to help those in our community who need support, then who will? That mindset is what drives me — it gives purpose to my work and keeps me motivated, no matter the challenges.
