Parenting Talk: Build Great Relationships with Your Child

WhatsApp Image 2023-03-06 at 8.25.44 AM

A one-hour parenting workshop was held recently on a Saturday morning to encourage parents to build great relationships with their children through connecting with their emotions. They were taught the importance of emotions and the different ways they can connect with their child's emotions with warm, kind and empathic attitude and show their child through action how they can express and cope with their emotions.

Parents were also reminded to engage in self-care activities as they need the energy and capacity to continue to be appropriate role models for their children. The workshop ended with a snack/drink and a fun parent-child bonding activity where everyone left recharged and reconnected to spend the rest of their weekend together!

Total Defence Commemoration Week

IMG_1044

Total Defence commemoration week started with police officers from the Community Policing Unit (CPU), visiting the school to conduct an assembly talk, explaining the different units and what they do to keep Singapore safe. The police officers also exhibited the police patrol car and equipment, where students had the opportunity to try on the helmet, bullet-resistant vest and riot shield.

Students from Bedok View Secondary School’s National Cadet Corp (NCC) also performed a rifle drill as part of the assembly programme.

From 15 to 17 February, students learnt about the six pillars of Total Defence and how to keep Singapore safe and strong. This was done during the morning assembly programme for Secondary students and by the Form Teachers in class for Primary pupils.

Katong School (KS) carried out a Unified Arts event with Anglican High School (AHS) on 1 February 2023, to promote Community Inclusion through Arts. Twenty-one pairs of students from KS and AHS collaborated to design as well as paint a pouch. Under the guidance of the art instructors, the students created artistic and unique hand-painted pouches using stencils, paints and markers.

This collaboration has enabled the school to harness creativity and teamwork in our students as well as stimulated friendly interactions amongst KS and AHS students through arts.

Start Right: Learning and Growing in
School

Starting school is often as much a journey for the parent as it is for the child. Ms Mechil Lumogdang remembers when her son, Mohamed Areez Furqan, first enrolled in a Special Education (SPED) school.

He has autism and mild intellectual disability. But Ms Mechil’s initial anxiety turned into reassurance and then to pride, as she saw Areez in good hands at APSN Katong School, growing and progressing with a circle of support.

Watch the video to see Areez's journey in APSN Katong School!
