APSN KS’s Winning Dish

On 16 July 2016, four APSN Katong School (KS) students participated in the Inter-SPED Schools Culinary Challenge 2016 organised by APSN Delta Senior School (DSS). Teams from  APSN DSS, Metta School, Lee Kong Chian Gardens School, Woodlands Gardens School and Mountbatten Vocational School participated in this competition.

The competition which consisted of 2 rounds required students to prepare and professionally present 2 sets of egg dishes independently. The task was made more challenging to the 4 teams in the final round as they had to use 2 “mystery ingredients” which were only made known to them 5 minutes before the start of the round.

Despite being amongst the youngest contestants in the competition,  APSN KS managed to pull through and was awarded the top performer award by the panel of judges which included professional chefs from the Singapore Chefs Association and Singapore Junior Chefs Club. Chef Toni Robertson, Executive Chef of Mandarin Oriental Hotel group was the Chief Judge for this Culinary Challenge.

Besides the hard work and dedication put in by the students and the instructors who guide them, APSN Katong School attributes its success to the well – equipped F&B kitchen sponsored by Marina Bay Sands Singapore. This has made it possible for our instructors, Mr. Han and Miss Poh, to provide our students with the proper training and preparation in order for them to face the challenges of the competition skillfully and confidently.
